Green Construction: Toward a Sustainable Future

FREMONT, CA: Green construction has paved the way for the adoption of sustainable technologies in the construction industry. The implementation of green technologies in construction has not only facilitated the development of energy-efficient buildings but also helped in decreasing the negative impacts on the environment.

When undertaking green construction projects, every aspect is made to meet the sustainability requirements, including the site, the design, the construction materials, and the machinery. In green building technology, access card sensors, motion detectors, RFID scanners, etc., are used to monitor the building. If any part of the building is unoccupied at any given moment, the lights, HVAC, cooling, heating, and ventilation is accordingly adjusted or shut down. It reduces energy consumption as well as the energy expenses of the building.

Old building, especially those located in hotter climates, result in unhealthy work environments. In most of these buildings, the HVAC systems are always running, accumulating condensation. It causes the growth of mold spores, which can be harmful to the work environment. Green buildings make use of automated systems, advanced software, and sensors to control the HVAC, maintaining an optimum temperature and humidity to ensure healthy conditions in the workspace.

Green technology also utilizes solar energy for sustainable construction. Active solar power systems are used to absorb radiation from the sun to generate heat and electricity to meet the energy requirements of the building. Also, passive solar power technologies are used in the strategic placement of windows and the creation of heat-absorbing surfaces to warm the living space during winter.

The use of green insulation has also contributed to sustainable construction, eliminating the need for expensive wall finishing. In green insulation, used denim and old newspapers are utilized as an insulation material to line the walls, not only reducing the cost but also providing quality insulation. Also, the use of sustainable and self-sufficient appliances can help in creating sustainable, zero-energy homes, and workspaces.

The various mechanisms employed by green construction are designed to drive efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Green technology buildings are designed to curb air leakage between the walls and allow free air flow in the living space. The adoption of green technology in construction will not only help in increasing energy efficiency but will also help in securing the environment for future generations.
