FREMONT, CA: Borgward Group, an automotive firm has moved into a strategic partnership with a consortium of companies that include LG Electronics, the software firm SAP, and the automotive supplier Robert Bosch. Motive behind the recently formed alliance is to launch the sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in Europe. The collaboration also triggers development and delivery of various automotive components and parts particularly associated with the electric mobility. "We are pooling our expertise with that of SAP, LG and Bosch in order to redefine the mobility of the future," said Ulrich Walker, CEO of Borgward Group AG, at the signing of agreements in Stuttgart.
SAP will offer the software for the efficient networking capabilities of value chain, R&D, production, global business operations, sales, services and other sections of Borgward. SAP’s software will allow the firm to effectively integrate the areas of Industry 4.0 and Internet Plus. The integration aims to mark the beginning of the new era for smart manufacturing; cutting down the traditional production and business operations.

They will also enable Borgward to generate a completely new customer experience when it comes to online price comparisons, new vehicle delivery, services and various pre-owned vehicle channels," says Michael Kleinemeier, Member of the Executive Board, SAP SE, Global Service & Support.
The partnership with LG Electronics stages a collaborative development and delivery of high-performance batteries for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Furthermore, Borgward and LG will together develop electric air-conditioning compressors. The companies will initiate the development of electric drive train with the cooperation of Bosch. Operations such as the development and supply of systems and components for dynamic handling systems, motor control units, electronic steering systems, starter generators and multimedia systems will also be a part of the partnership goals.
