Sam PardueHe lived in a 1906 craftsmen house with old and beautiful windows, but these were drafty, overdriving the heating systems and increasing the energy bills. Window inserts are an effective solution for these issues, but most of the inserts either require complete replacements of these antique windows or modify them considerably, which proves to be costly. Sam needed window inserts that could make the windows draftproof and energy- efficient while preserving the handcrafted finery of windows. This is when Sam and his friend Mark.
Pratt, a production designer by profession, derived an innovative idea from their refrigerator gasket’s sealing mechanism and reinvented window inserts. The Eureka moment for them was when they discovered that the magnet of the refrigerator gasket could be eliminated completely, and the extrusion itself can be converted into a spring, which can be used in the window frames that would hold it in place. This translated into the unique window frames, featuring incredibly easy installations and removals, with no requirement for window replacements. They devoted efforts to building an entire system that could coordinate the mass custom manufacturing of these window inserts with high accuracy and reliability.
In this backdrop was founded Indow, featuring high quality customized window inserts that can resolve window issue with affordable prices and hassle-free installation.
Indow window inserts are easy-toinstall, lightweight, and customizable with very little profiling. These are sheets of acrylic glazing edged with the company’s patented silicone compression tubes, which are customcut to fit the existing window frames’ size and shape rightly. The key to their appropriate fit lies in the Indow IT system that uses laser measurements of the inside of the window frames and deploys algorithms to detect and reduce measurement errors. These can be installed simply by pressing the tube into the frame along its perimeter that creates a tight seal and holds the insert firmly in place, with very low and sleek profiling. Once installed, these facilitate consumers to be energy-efficient and enjoy a comfortable and noise-free indoor environment. “Our window inserts block 100 percent of the cold drafts, reduce noise by up to 70 percent while reducing heating and cooling bills by up to 20 percent,” adds Sam.
Indow offers seven types of inserts for commercial and residential customers, including acoustic grades, sleep panels, UV protection inserts, and many more. Mostly on the commercial front, offices, hotels, and other hospitality installation for quieter workspaces or resting spaces. On the other hand, residential and multi- family projects seek both soundproofing and comfort services. “For instance, we have inserts that will completely block the lights; so you can sleep during the day, if you happen to be a night shift worker,” mentions Sam.
Today, COVID-19 has invited its own share of pros and cons for Indow. While some hospitality and office soundproofing projects have been delayed, multi-family installations have witnessed an upturn. Again, with work- fromhome as a new normal, there has been an increased demand for home windows soundproofing. Moreover, the pandemic has tweaked the client approach Indow takes by engaging in more video conferences today. This has helped them understand and address their clients’ window issues better and enhance their sales.
From an idea to revolutionize window inserts, Indow has grown capable of substituting high-end window replacements efficiently. In addition to their existing products, they are buoyant to introduce their upcoming products, one of them being the Infrared-protection inserts. Besides, they intend to expand internationally beyond the US and Canada.
