Tips To Enhance Construction Efficiency

By Construction Tech Review | Monday, February 25, 2019

Construction industry is experiencing the technological boom at its best. Newly emerging skyscrapers and theme based architectures are setting up new standards for construction efficiency. On the other hand, the industry is facing a shortage of skilled labor to manage projects more effectively. To enhance efficiency in the vertical technological tools, management software, predictive analysis, and various other methods can be applied which in return would fill the shortage.

Estimation Technology

Usually, estimators are using spreadsheets to generate estimates and proposals which is time-consuming and are prone to errors. Technology can aid cost estimation, and pricing for better and companies have started to stride in the same direction. Incorporation of estimation tools will provide better estimates as they are based on a vast amount of data collected from previous projects. More accurate estimates will allow businesses to channelize their workflow and increase overall construction efficiency.

Efficient Construction Management Software

Construction management software proves handy in managing the overall construction operations effectively. Management software comes with in-built tools to carry out specific tasks such as inventory management, worker attendance, raw material order rescheduling, leave management, document management, and job scheduling. It keeps project managers free from the clutter of paperwork allowing them to heed on more strategic jobs. Software is compatible with all kinds of devices supporting remote management. Construction companies can even customize the application to meet specific needs either by developing homegrown one or by installing available plug-ins.

Training The Unskilled

Shortage of skilled labor can be overcome by either hiring the skilled or by training the existing unskilled workforce. In comparison, hiring new skilled labor requires more effort, time, and investment than training the unskilled. It also increases their trust and faith over the company making them more loyal. The existing workforce must be trained with new equipment, tools, and technology.

Building Information Modelling

The construction industry is experiencing a new wave of building information modeling (BIM) that refers to the process of creating a digital representation of structures that are not yet started. Visualizing a construction before starting helps in estimation of cost, project timeline, and workforce required to meet them. BIM allows managers to figure out each aspect of construction and schedule their workflow accordingly.
